Volunteering With Us
We need your support
Without your generous support either as a volunteer or as a donor to our charity our mission would be practically impossible. We would like to recognise all those that have extended their support to our Foundation, you have made a significant difference to children in Kenya. Thank you.
We are always seeking volunteers to help us in our activities, your time is valuable to us and the children we support. We have three areas where we need support in terms of time and involvement. The first is seeking volunteers in the UK to help with our cause. Whether it is helping with administration or management as a Trustee, or as a volunteer willing to travel overseas and provide help directly to our activities in Kenya. If you can help us we would love to hear from you. Please click here to use our contact form.
Volunteering to support us in Africa
How would you like to spend this summer working with children in Kenya?
We are currently seeking volunteers for our programme which will run from July to August.
Change Africa Foundation is a UK registered charity set up to try to address the poverty, education and ill health in Kenya. We run a centre for orphaned children in Kisumu in Western Kenya and are now recruiting a limited number of volunteers.
The programme will run for 6 weeks. Four weeks will be spent working in the orphanage and with the community in Kisumu. The last 2 weeks will be spent in Nairobi where we will visit Nairobi slums and orphanages and do some touristy things.
When in Kisumu, volunteers will be hosted by Kenyan families. We have accommodation in Nairobi, while in Mombasa – we will stay in a villa/hotel. During the stay we will visit a Game Park and go on a Maasai Mara/Safari.
Week 1:The first week will be spent at the Change Africa Foundation orphanage helping out with painting and general maintenance at the orphanage. Spending time with the orphans - playing and talking to them, helping with homework and learning English.
Week 2: A tour of the local area, including some of the poorer areas visit "Obama" village/ Game village. Opportunity to "moto" (fetch firewood - the way natives do it) and have a go at milking cattle. Helping out in the local hospitals - talking to patients and generally helping the nurses.
Week 3: Helping out in schools: painting, teaching and helping students with their English
arranging a talent show/cultural day for a few of the local schools. The day we arrange will help the schools to be involved in something as a community.
Week 4: A little sightseeing around Kisumu, expect to visit museums, Hippo point, Lake Victoria, Big Rocks and also an evening "on the town".
Week 5: 3-4 days in Nairobi: see sugar cane plantations and where Kenyan tea grows. Visit a game park and experience some of the city’s social life.
Week 6: Volunteers will spend the last week having a well deserved rest, generally relaxing and enjoying the tourist attractions of Mombasa, visiting the beach, seeing the Masaii, Safari, etc.
The cost to follow the volunteer programme this year will be around £1550 to cover flights, transport, accommodation (bed and breakfast), insurance, etc. (You will also need to bring personal spending money for entertainment and other personal costs).
Volunteer in February
Starting from February we will be seeking volunteers for a six week assignment in Kenya. The cost will be £800 which includes flights. This assignment will visit and work with the orphanage, local schools, hospital and slums. Volunteers will stay in the local village.

Information for Parents of Volunteers
Change Africa Foundation provides a unique opportunity for volunteers to experience Kenyan culture by supporting the Foundation at the point of delivery. Volunteers will live with the villagers in thatched mud huts for part of their stay, they will learn to live like the villagers participating in the everyday tasks that maintain village life in rural Kenya. Tasks like fetching fire wood, attending to crops and small holdings and milking cows.
Volunteers will experience cooking over a wood fire and making African dishes. They may also have the opportunity to witness Kenyan celebrations, festivals, weddings, funerals and witch doctors; part of daily life in the surrounding area.
Change Africa Foundation is the only charity which gives volunteers the best opportunity to experience life at the point of delivery and to see first hand how we are helping children in this region of Kenya. It will represent a major cultural experience over a period of 6 weeks which they will never forget. We have several repeat volunteers who go to Kisumu every year.
It is not all work and no play, during the stay some of the time is spent on safaris in the Masai Mara, visiting the home village of President of United States Grandma; Sara Obama who is supporting Change Africa Foundation. We include a beach holiday, visits to museums, visit to the Big Rock and to Fort Jesus. Everything is included in the 6 weeks apart from personal spending money.
On return we thank our volunteers and provide them with Change Africa Foundation certificates recognising their contribution to the children of Kisumu, they can also add their experience to their CV.

If you have management experience or a particular skill that the Foundation would benefit from, and you have the time to support us we would like to hear from you. We are interested in recruiting more Trustees to help to run the charitable foundation, direct activities and help us to raise more funds and deliver more services. Interested?
